Wolf Spider

Wolf Spider A few nights ago I was surprised to find an uninvited visitor in the form of a spider on my family room floor, she didn't appear to fussed about moving on either. Now this is a formidable looking spider to say the least and while I enjoy looking at and learning about spiders I do not I repeat DO NOT wish to share my dwelling place with them. For the both my peace of mind and the well being of the spider I found a glass large enough to go over her and slid a stiff piece of paper under both the spider and glass and reinstated it to a new safe home. This is the very spider my Father used as an example more than 60 years ago to put a life long fear of spiders into me for me . It is a Wolf spider so named as it hunts its prey down as a wolf would . Dad also told me they would run after me and bite me . Southern Old Lady Moth

Don't you just love the name ! How on earth did it get a name like ? Still I rather like it. I see a few of these every year but this the first time I have had a good camera and been able to get a reasonable shot of it. The first thing you notice about this moth is the beautiful blue and black abstract eye and the zigzag lines on its wing . This moth is found over the southern half of Australia , Norfolk Island , New Zealand and even Macquarie Island . The Old lady Moth measures 9cm across and feeds on wattles. KURRAJONG WEEVIL Axionicus isignis ??

Kurrajong Weevil Love it's wee feet ! Found this tiny fellow yesterday when tying up my blackberry runners. What a strange looking creature !! I always wonder what the insects I find, eat and where do they sleep and what is their reason for being? Are they a threat to my plants or for that matter to me. I have not used poison on my block for years as I feel their use is not only a danger to myself and my family but to all the creatures that I share my 1/4 acre with. Anyhow back to this weevil, I have posted another weevil back when I started this blog but it was different to this one and the only one I can find like mine was seen in Wagga Wagga in NSW.and it was on a Kurrajong tree as I found this one under the Kurrajong whose branches reach over the fence from next door I have to wonder if it may have come from !!!
