IT'S EYES ARE BIGGER THAN IT'S BELLY !!!

Spider Wasp with its Prey

Whenever we return home from an outing our cats come to the gate to meet us, yesterday during this welcome a wasp began to attack Jedi  and then it began to circle both my husband and myself and then back to the ground where there was this large fat spider . She was trying to protect what was possibly her best victim to date !
The Wasp is a Spider Wasp and the Spider a Huntsman
The spider was quite motionless no doubt suffering the affects of  the paralysing sting it had received from the spider.
The Spider Wasp is solitary and she builds a mud nest by herself.  The paralysed spider is deposited in the mud nest and she then lays an egg in the spider and the spider becomes food for the grub when it hatches.
These wasps are not aggressive and certainly not a pest indeed are a benefit to have around .
Spider Wasps feed on nectar and drink water and also need water to build their nests another good reason to have a bird bath I say .
